The Wachiman name and logo
What you can say and do with the Wachiman name and logo, what to ask first, and what a fork has to change.
Last updated: 2026-11-02
You can say “Wachiman” truthfully, run it, and redistribute unmodified copies without asking. You can also change it for your own team and keep the name. If you distribute a modified version, or its output reaches people outside your team, give it a different name and remove the original logo. This page orients; the policy itself is a file in the repository, so a fork receives it with the code.
Three common questions
Section titled “Three common questions”Can I write about it, or say my tool works with it? Yes. Articles, talks, videos, documentation and phrases such as “works with Wachiman” or “for Wachiman” need no permission, as long as they are true and do not suggest the project made or approved your work.
Can I name my product, company, domain or service after it? Ask first. That covers names such as “Wachiman Cloud”, a domain or social handle that contains the name, merchandise, and using the mascot as your own logo. The name and the mascot are the project’s way of telling people who made something.
Can I fork it? Yes. You may change it for your own team and keep the name if nobody outside the team sees the result. If you distribute a modified version or its output reaches people outside your team, give it a different name, remove the original logo and replace its Wachiman comment heading. You may say it is “based on Wachiman”.
The mark and the license
Section titled “The mark and the license”The name, the logo and the mascot are trademarks of NIWAY (Niway S.A.C.). They are not registered; the policy applies to them either way.
The code license covers the code. It grants no right to the name, and neither does the Apache-2.0
license that each version published under FSL-1.1-ALv2 also becomes available under two years after
that version is made available. A separate trademark policy covers the name, the logo
and the wachiman.dev domain. Renaming a fork does not make a use allowed that the code license does
not allow.
How to ask
Section titled “How to ask”Write to contact@niway.com and say what you want to do and where it will appear. This is a one-person project, so replies are best effort.
